Basics Of Front Yard Landscaping
Front yard landscaping is often the most tried form of landscaping because everyone tends to focus primarily on the look of a house’s front yard. Numerous designs and styles of front yard landscaping have been applied by people and countless other landscaping ideas exist in the minds of homeowners and inhabitants for giving an impressive shape and feel to their front yards. Some points of basic importance are listed here in order to provide a general idea of front yard landscaping.
Building Materials
One of the most common building materials for front yard landscaping is bricks. Bricks can be used in a variety of different ways to add height to the front yard, as well as create paths and borders. Additionally, bricks can be used to designate an area specifically for sitting and relaxing. Bricks can be easily used without the need for professional help, as well as being quite inexpensive.
In some situations, concrete may be more suitable. Although it is generally less desirable than bricks, it is often better for people who are in wheelchairs or serve drink or food on a trolley. Although concrete may need repair every couple of years, it is very useful in making patios.
Front Yard Landscaping For Desert Climates
Climates that are hot and arid often limit a person’s front yard landscaping designs. Therefore, it is important to adopt a practical approach and use plants and soil that can remain healthy, even under the barren conditions. Ideally, you will want to choose plants that do not require a large supply of water to survive. Longwood Blue Bluebeard, Purple Sage and Oleander are some of the more popular desert plants that will thrive in desert conditions and look excellent in front yards.
Driveways
It is important to landscape driveways, since they often lead people directly inside to the home. There are a variety of different landscaping styles for your driveway. In most cases, it is better to plant firm trees along the driveway, versus small plants. This is especially true if there are small children playing on the driveway. If your budget allows, it is advisable to gate off the driveway. This not only makes the driveway more beautiful, it also makes it more secure. It is also important to build a small wall to prevent animals from entering the yard and ruining your landscaping efforts.
Footpaths Shrubs And Solar Lights
The footpath leading from the driveway to your front door should ideally be made from bricks or stones. By planting flowers and lush plants along one side it will look more pleasant. Try to use medium rocks rather than large ones. The more popular stones used for this purpose are pumice, limestone and granite.
To increase the beauty of your front yard consider planting some shrubs. Not only do they define the boundaries of the yard but they also give it a fresh and soft look and afford some privacy. Solar lights will finish off the look by being both decorative and functional. They are also very cost effective.
