Discover Basic Gun Dog Training Insights

by Rebecca Foxton

The bond between a hunter and his dog is one of the strongest. A hunting dog will listen and respond to your commands quickly and exactly. This connection is really worth the time spent building it.

Types of Retrievers: Breeds such as Labrador retrievers and Nova Scotia Duck Tolling retrievers are excellent gun dogs having been bred over hundreds of years for just that purpose. However, despite centuries of breeding, dogs can still be willful.

Command Basics: Whoa, No, Kennel, Sit, and Come are very important basic commands. Before you take your dog out into the field, it should know and obey all of these basic commands. You can’t expect your dog to listen and obey when he is running free if he doesn’t listen to you when he’s on a leash. Teach your dog in the real situation of public fields and not just at home.

Field Training: Once your dog learns those commands and he has been taught not to be frightened by gun noise you can start field training. Start with dummy training. Your dog must learn that he is meant to retrieve something and starting with a dummy is the best way to teach him what he is suppose to do.

Dummy Training: Pick a dummy that suits your dog. Some resemble game birds, others are plastic and some are fabric. Once your dog learns to retrieve the dummy and bring it back without shaking or destroying it in any way, you can begin to train with real birds.

Occasionally the dog will not go for an actual bird and you may need to train him further by using a dummy with feathers and streamers added on. This will mimic the movements of an actual bird and he will become more confident handling it. Streamers imitate the actions of a bird when it is not quite dead so that the real bird likely will not frighten your dog.

Using Decoys: It is important that you transition to the real bird slowly if your dog seems to be afraid at first when retrieving it. You can use a stuffed duck or pheasant as a decoy dummy, by getting them from the taxidermist.

How To Protect Yourself From Identity Theft

by William Hopkins

Identity theft is a serious crime that is growing each year. If you are a victim of identity theft you may spend months, possibly years, trying to restore a damaged credit report. An extremely ruined credit report could compromise your chances of obtaining new employment, a bank loan, insurance or even renting a house. It is even possible to be arrested for a violation you did not commit if the guilty party has used your identity to commit illegal acts.

Remarkably, a lot of the means that crooks use to steal identities are out of your control to shield against. Granting it is rare, even store cashiers have been known to utilize their position to send along data to identity thieves. There are certain actions you can take, however, that will make it more bothersome for a criminal to swipe your identity.

Guard Your Credit Card Number When Making Purchases

After you make a purchase and your credit or debit card has been run through a credit card terminal, check to be sure that the printed receipt obscures every number but the last 4 digits of your credit card account number (usually there will be Xs in place of the first twelve numbers). Some machines still print copies of receipts that show all 16 digits of an account number, and may even include the date the card expires as well. After your card is swiped, you are authorized legally to conceal the first twelve digits of your account number on the copy of the receipt that the seller holds. Utilize any marking pen that will do the job.

When you dine at a restaurant, it is especially crucial to be sure that the first 12 digits of your credit card number are not visible on your receipt. You might be in the custom of endorsing it and then leaving the restaurant’s duplicate receipt on the table after your meal. A criminal can simply swipe the signed duplicate receipt prior to the waitperson coming back around to get it from the table. Don’t take any chances.

Do You Really Need To Offer Your Social Security Number?

Additionally, an important way that you may safeguard against identity theft is to avoid giving out your social security number except when it is definitely required. Although you have to share your social security number upon applying for credit or for a bank account, occasionally a business or an organization will need to utilize it as an identification number, just to identify you inside their network. This is a familiar practice even though the law states that social security numbers aren’t to be maintained as identification numbers. In this situation, use your common sense. There’s generally another option if you inquire.

Destroy Forms That Contain Sensitive Personal Information

Buy a paper shredder and apply it to destroy documents you are getting rid of which contain personal info such as credit card numbers, social security numbers, telephone numbers and dates of birth. This is critical to do both at your residence and your place of employment. Identity thieves are not above dumpster diving to find valuable personal info that can help them get credit in someone’s name.

If The Worst Occurs

If you do become a victim of identity theft, take the following measures immediately:

* Communicate with your credit card companies, stop your accounts and request to have new cards issued to you.

* Install a fraud alert on your record with any one of the three major credit reporting agencies. The other two will be informed automatically.

* Put in a police report. You may need it to show to creditors as confirmation of the illegal act.

* Put in a complaint with the FTC, which maintains a database of identity theft cases utilized by law enforcement agencies for their investigations.

Car Insurance Today

by Barry Friedmann

People who own antique cars are generally passionate about them; just like everyday cars though, they require insurance. With such interest in old cars you will not be surprised to learn there are antique car insurance companies that take a particular interest in insuring this type of vehicle. This is obviously good for the person searching for the classic car insurance as they have plenty of companies to choose from.

Even commercial auto insurers are getting in on the act now with policies to protect antique cars they call them ‘collector auto insurance’. Coverage is calculated once a representative from the insurance company takes the details of your car and your personal details so as to provide the best policy. Of course just what level of protection you will decide upon will be down to your budget and how much they set the deductible at.

Purchasing auto cover for an antique car through a commercial insurer will give the policy holder peace of mind, knowing that the company they have chosen to do business with is an established company with a good reputation. The other advantage of this type of insurer is their ability to arrange the protection on any other regular vehicle you own. Although there may be a price premium for antique car insurance with this type of company, the peace of mind it brings could be well worth the additional amount.

Large numbers of owners of old cars still insure their vehicles with the specialist auto insurers but will have to use a standard auto insurer for any other car. Owners of very rare classic cars may even have difficulty insuring their car.

When choosing an independent insurance company to provide car insurance for an antique car, be sure that the company is a reputable one. The last situation you want is to require their help and find that all your premiums have been wasted because they cannot or will not pay out on your claim.

Although it might seem like hard work finding an antique car insurance company that you feel happy entrusting your antique car with, it is far better than not having the car insured. Most classic cars are worth many thousands of dollars and that is a big loss if the car is ever stolen or destroyed so having auto cover may be the most valuable protection you ever purchase.

Five Simple Ways to Get Out of Debt

by William Blake

Having too much debt can be an overwhelming problem. It can constantly loom over you, casting a shadow over everything else you’re doing. Unfortunately, getting into debt is all to easy, and the result is more and more people are having trouble making ends meet.

When you’re faced with debt, it can seem impossible to get control of it. But if you recognize the problem early enough, it can be fairly simple. If you’re struggling with your debts, here are five ways to get rid of them and get your finances back on track.

1. Pay more than the minimum payments. Ideally, we should pay off our credit card balances every month, but sometimes we don’t or can’t. Paying more than just the minimum payment will allow us to pay off our debts much faster. It also has the potential to save us a lot of money, because the quicker we pay credit cards off, the less interest accrues.

This tip is true for other types of loans and credit as well - car loans, mortgages, etc. In some cases, particularly mortgages, you may be faced with a prepayment penalty, but if there is no penalty for paying your debt off early, you should do so.

2. Cut down your expenses and put what you save toward paying off your debt. If you look at your spending over a month, you’ll most likely find some things that you don’t really need. Every dollar you save and put towards your debt gets you close to being debt-free.

3. Sell things you have around the house that you don’t need or use. Have you got a second car that you don’t use very often? Maybe a second computer that isn’t really getting much use? Even just gathering up things that you don’t need any longer and having a yard sale can help you raise some money for paying down your debt.

4. Find ways to make extra money. You could take on a second job, do some babysitting, or sign up with a direct sales company. If you put all of your extra money toward paying off your debts, you shouldn’t need to do this for very long.

5. Consolidate your debts, but make sure you understand the consequences. One of the ways you can do this is to transfer all your outstanding credit cards onto a single low-interest card. This usually lowers your monthly minimum payment so if you keep making the same payments you have been, the balance will be paid off sooner. Stay away from home equity loans or other secured loans if you can since that will put your property at risk.

Getting out of debt may be easier than you think. Often a few minor adjustments are all that’s needed to eradicate a debt problem, especially if it is attended to early on. Then you can learn from your mistakes and keep your debt manageable.

The Benefits of Buying a Polycarbonate Greenhouse

by Spencer Wilkins

For many years now most people who have purchased a greenhouse will have one, which is made from aluminium and glass. Yet more and more people are choosing to purchase polycarbonate greenhouses in place of these more traditional types of ones. Certainly, there are a number of advantages to be gained from having a polycarbonate one rather than one that has glass in it and below we look at what some of these are.

1. Greenhouses that use polycarbonate are far better insulated than those that use glass and are better able to keep the temperature inside at a more constant level. Because of this a person finds that the atmosphere is better and more conducive to them growing good quality healthy plants.

2. Also using polycarbonate sheets rather than glass in a greenhouse means that the chances of you having to replace them is greatly reduced. This is because they are much stronger and are much more resistant to any kind of blow to them.

3. The sheets used in greenhouses today which are made from polycarbonate rather than glass are very light and can be supplied in the exact lengths that one needs. So when it comes to replacing the glass in your current greenhouse you will find it is a job that you can do yourself quickly and easily.

4. The sheets that are made from this material all have ribbed channels along them and this will further helps to diffuse and break up the suns rays as they try to enter the greenhouse. So the need for including additional shading in order to protect the plants inside is greatly reduced.

5. As well as the ribbed channels in the sheets they also have U-channels and these help to protect the sheets from damage caused by insects and dirt. Plus these channels also help to ensure that any condensation, which appears on the sheets, can drain away quickly and easily also.

6. As we have previously mentioned greenhouses, which use polycarbonate rather than glass, are very well insulated and this will further extend the time that you are able to grow plants for. Plus if you choose to heat your greenhouse during the winter months in order to provide further protection them the loss of heat from this is greatly reduced as well.

As you have seen from above there are plenty of advantages to be gained from installing polycarbonate greenhouses in your garden over those that are made using glass. For those that live in much cooler climates then these are the ideal to help them ensure that they grow the best plants.

Keep Your Garden Free Of Bad Bugs

by Tom Johnson

It can take as little as 2 hours for insects to destroy your plants and all your hard work. You don’t need any annoying pests wreaking havoc on your plants after you’ve spent hours of your time and toil planting out your garden.

Stopping these bugs from attacking your garden by keeping them out right from the start is the very best option. I’m sure you know there are numerous chemicals that will do this, but you must put your and your family’s safety first.

At the same time, by killing the unwanted pests you also kill the friendly ones. You don’t want to do that because you need all the help you can get in the fight against the bad bugs.

Ladybugs and spiders are among your best friends in the garden. They’re the predators that feed on the pests that damage your plants, so you want to encourage them, not kill them. These helpful bugs will either feed on the pests or drive them away.

You should find out from your local nursery what plants attract these helpful insects so that you can plant them to encourage the good pests to take up residence and keep the damaging ones out.

There are some plants that give off a scent that repels the bad bugs and keeps them away from your precious produce. Such plants - like marigolds and the borage herb plant - are very effective at keeping those pests away from your tomato plants. Plant them nearby and watch your tomato plants grow to be healthy and robust.

Another thing to keep in mind is to keep your garden neat and tidy. The harmful pests are often attracted to piles of leaves, debris, grass cuttings and dense spots of weeds. Many of the bad pests can thrive in those areas, so weed your garden regularly and clean up any leaves and grass cuttings that find their way into your garden.

There are also some home remedies that will repel these damaging pests such as a hot pepper wax spray. The harmful insects and even some native pests will be put off by the spicy oil residue this leaves on your plants.

As long as you give your harvest a good wash you can forget about any after taste. This will remove any traces of the spray before you eat your crops, so don’t worry.

There’s nothing worse than seeing all your hard work amount to nothing at any time and it’s no different for gardeners. Don’t allow all your time and effort to go to waste by not doing anything to get rid of these insect pests.

Do a little homework first around your local area and find out what are the best companion plants to keep the good guys around and what will annoy the bad pests, this will pay dividends.

Is Bankruptcy Really The Only Choice You’ve Got?

by William Blake

If your finances are in a mess, you may have considered bankruptcy. Even though your debt may be wiped clean, there are many other end consequences.

If you find that you can’t seem to pay your bills every month, you may consider filing for bankruptcy. As a consumer you have two choices: Chapter 7 and Chapter 13. Chapter 7 bankruptcy is when all your assets are sold off in order to pay all or part of your debt. With Chapter 13 bankruptcy, it’s more of a debt restructuring and you will make a plan to repay part of the debt overtime to your creditors.

Bankruptcy damages a person’s credit. A bankruptcy judgment stays on credit reports for as long as ten years. During that time, any credit that is applied for will disclose the bankruptcy to the creditor. If filing Chapter 13, you still have to pay back part of your debt and the judgment stays on your credit report for ten years.

Previously, people have taken advantage of bankruptcy laws. They were allowed to file more than once for Chapter 7 so many used it to wipe out all their debt.

Each state decides on what assets they will exempt from being seized during a bankruptcy hearing. Knowing that, some may use available cash to purchase those items (homes, cars, etc.) in an effort to avoid payment and still retain the stuff they purchased. In this instance, creditors receive little or nothing from the bankruptcy settlement.

This has been changed by new laws. Courts used to have free rein when it came to who could file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Now certain standards have to be met first. In order to be able to file for Chapter 7, your income must be below the average income of the state where you live. Your income then goes through a calculation that determines if you have enough disposable income to be able to pay back twenty-five percent of the debt owed.

More people will have to file for bankruptcy under Chapter 13. The courts will decide the amount of repayment from facts that they receive. An allowance is made for rent or mortgage, food and other relevant bills. With the new laws, the IRS regulates the value of each bill, exempts a certain amount, and payments are decided from the rest.

Lawyers are charging more than ever because declaring bankruptcy has become much more involved. The whole process will cost the client much more than before which will hopefully make them think twice about filing. Credit counseling is also required as a first step before filing bankruptcy. The counselor may be able to help you and rule out the need to file.

Bankruptcy should always be a last resort. While it will give you a clean slate, it comes at a price.
