Is Your Financial Planner Going to Pay Your LTC Bills?

by Georgia McClure

I always like to ask my clients, “Will your financial planner be willing to pay your long term care bills, will they have access to good quality Home Health Care Providers?” Many lawyers and advisors are now reluctant to recommend against Long Term Care Insurance for fear of law suits later on, from children, when hundreds of thousands of dollars were required to pay for their parents long term care bills. Planners who fail to recommend coverage are more times than not, unaware of the real RISK of needing care one day.

The senior has now become the GREATEST financial risk that Americans face today. The majority of them are unaware of it because let’s face it: No One wants to think about needing Long Term Care. It is going to happen to someone else! Long term care bills are the biggest reason for financial failures among seniors today. Yet there are a lot of Financial Planners and Investment advisers who will say that you don’t need Long Term Care Insurance. If you already have a lot of money, perhaps you don’t! The question is: Would it be a smart decision to have this coverage? What we are seeing today are many Financial Planners split on the subject of LTC Insurance. You will hear some say that if you have any resources you should not be without it, that it is an integral part of financial planning, while others think if you have enough money you should self-insure. Who is right?

Every financial adviser I talk with would recommend long term care coverage if he knew in advance that his client would need several years of long term care. Do the math. In a state where long term care bills are averaging $170 per day, and the average premium is $4000 a year for a couple, aged 60, and they live another 20 years, they have paid out $80,000 in premiums for the peace of mind that they will not go broke. Without the insurance, they could end up paying over $80,000 in less than two years for ONE OF THEM on the advice from a Financial Planner telling them that they DON’T NEED IT! It must be concluded that Financial advisers who recommend against LTC Insurance figure you are not going to need care since they would recommend you obtain coverage if they knew you were going to have to spend several hundred thousand dollars. You should find out from the adviser what is the BASIS for their prediction? Also, be aware that advisers are sales people. They are in the business of making you money. If you purchase Long Term Care Insurance, you have less money for them to manage! The decision is yours. At this point in your life, are you more interested in making a few more thousand dollars a year or are you more interested in protecting what you have already earned from the most DEVASTATING financial risk that people face in America today? One of the biggest financial mistakes a person can make today is needing Long Term Care and having no coverage! Is this a mistake you want to take a chance on making? Seek out a LTC Insurance Specialist to help you make the best informed decision for you and your family. Remember, your Financial Planner or adviser is not going to pay your long term care bills. You will!

The Prevention And First Aid Treatment Of Scalding

by Dana Drewer

Scalding, it can happen in an instant. One minute you’re taking a nice hot shower then someone in the other bathroom turns on the cold water taking it from you and you’re hit full blast with hot water straight from the hot water tank. You’re in the kitchen boiling water for dinner, you go to the fridge for something hearing a strange sound you turn around only to see your toddler tipping over the pot of hot water.

Every year more than 100 thousand people are rushed to the emergency room for first aid of scald burns, a small percentage of them will need hospitalized. It only take a water temperature of 120 degrees Fahrenheit to become scalding, depending on the age of the victim and the area affected. Most scaldings happen with small children under the age of 5, the elderly and those physically challenged.

Scalding is a type of burn injury caused by exposure to hot fluids or gasses such as hot water, cooking oil, or steam. Scalding is a second-degree burn which is deeper and results in blistering or worse. Scalding with hot water or very severe sunburn are common instances of second-degree burns. First aid can be used on the smaller affected areas.

Many facilities need to have higher water temperatures to control bacteria, such as hospitals and medical centers. Dishwashers and laundries help prevent the spread of harmful bacterial diseases. In these settings they need the water temperature to be as high as 140 degrees F. Just the slightest area exposed most likely will be burned no mater what age you are.

The best way in first aid prevention of such burns at home is to set your hot water tank at 120 degrees F, remember, if you move into a new residence, check the hot water tank thermostat. If you are unable to adjust the temperature yourself, contact your local health department or fire department, they will come and assess how your hot water tank is working and how hot the water is. There is no charge for this service.

Teaching your toddler that the kitchen and the stove top are dangerous places will help keep them from injuries such as scalds. With that said you still need to be vigilent when your child enters the kitchen. For first aid prevention, keep all cooking pot and pan handles out of their reach and if possible move them to the back burner.

There are now temperature controls that can be placed on many hot water lines to help prevent scalding in showers and in sink taps, when someone else uses cold water in another part of the home. Never place your body directly into water until you test the water to be sure of the temperature. Always test a baby’s water with your wrist before placing them in the water. A baby’s skin is very sensitive to heat and can scald in seconds.

If the unthinkable happens and someone does get scalded, first aid may be needed. The best thing to do if it is a minor burn is to apply cold water or ice to the burned area for a minimum of 5 minutes. Don’t allow the burned area to turn numb as this could cause frostbite. If this is a minor burn, the use of acetaminophen (Tylenol or its equivalent) can be used to reduce pain, but cream and sprays are not recommended. If there is blistering. DO NOT BREAK the blisters.

In some cases the area affected may be to large or severe and first aid just isn’t enough. Call for or get help and see a doctor or the emergency room of your nearest hospital. A prescription may need to be given to relieve the pain.

Sharps Knifes Come from Good Knife Making

by Peter Mason

Did you ever stop and think about what exactly goes into making a knife? Knives come in all different varieties, from cheap, flimsy ones that go with cheap kitchen settings, to truly beautiful knives that are collectors’ items and can last a lifetime. Of course, while most people are relatively familiar with the wide variety of knifes available, few people ever consider the process of making a knife. The end product is all in the process, however - a great knife is a great knife because of everything that went into making it.

Knife Making 101 - The Basic Steps

Knife Finishing - There are a few different kinds of knife finishing out there. Jeweled metal knives are finished from the inside out, so that the jeweled metal takes on stunning new tones. For knives that look like they have been around the block a few times, look for stonewashed finished knives (the idea is similar to stonewashed jeans). Last but not least, vibed finished knives give a knife an antiqued look that is more subtle than the stonewashed finish.

Annealing (Heat Treating) - Annealing is a process which subjects the metal in the knife to the highest temperature it can handle without melting. Annealing has two general types. Hardening annealing uses very high temperatures to make the knife as hard as possible, depending on the type of metal being used in the blade. Tempering annealing involves cooling the knife after it has been heated to capture the hardness of the blade, also making it sharp.

Steel Blades- Many people flock to steel blades that claim to be stainless steel. There are two things to keep in mind about this, however. One is that most so called stainless steel actually can easily be stained and/or rusted if you don’t care for it properly. You also have to take into account the fact that the very things that make steel stainless also makes it weaker. If you want knife blade that will last a long time, forget about the stainless steel and instead go for a knife blade that can be stained - and then take pristine care of it. One particularly strong kind of metal that can be used in a knife blade is so called Damascus steel, which combines two metals into the blade. Strong is not the same thing as invincible, and any knife can be broken, but Damascus steel makes for a really strong knife blade.

Pay Day Loans UK Process

by Rashel Dan

Pay day loans UK are quite popular. These short-term loans can be very helpful to those who need a quick cash solution when it is really needed. However, one has to understand how these loans can be attained and what might be needed before entering any legal agreements with any loan stores or financial institutions.

Here are a couple of basic things to keep in mind about these personal loans:

The Loan Itself

Typically, a short term lease like this will last for two weeks tops. Since this is a pay day loan, this means that a loan store will expect that a loan will be paid off the next time a person receives his or her paycheck.

You may have to present some requirements before a loan is granted. The pay day loans UK require that one bring some sort of proof that one is able to pay the loan in full plus the interest rates. This can be proven by giving some kind of proof of income so that a loan company can ascertain the borrower’s ability to pay. Other required materials will be contact details, possible collaterals, etc.

Where One Avail Of Such A Loan

Aside from the usual loan from a bank scheme, there are also other loan shops that one can go to. For example, there are many retail outlets in the UK that allow these types of loans. These pay day lending stores will offer small cash loans but expect the loan to be paid back during ones pay day.

They also add a little interest for the loan which can be a typical 390 percent on top of the loan itself. The best way to make sure that one doesn’t forget to pay is to give a loan establishment a post dated check so that it can be cashed on the due date. However, one has to consider the penalties for paying late or not paying at all. These penalties include the lending stores right to add penalty fees on top of the loan that was applied for.

The other place that is getting more popular for lending activities is on the internet. Internet pay day loans UK are now typical and much better since the interest rates are the lowest. These pay day loans are marketed through emails, ads, and through referrals.

All one has to do is fill out an online application that asks for personal information as well as bank information. The lack of a middle man makes sure that these pay day loans UK are cheap and withdrawals of a loan payment can be made electronically on borrowers’ next pay day.
