Safety Tips for Writing a Personal Check

by William A. Gordon

For anyone that has little experience in check writing, it is strongly recommended that you read on. Although, safely writing a check may not be the hardest thing youll ever do, it is one of the most important.

Use Ink Only

Always use a pen to write a check to prevent any kind of tampering with the check. Never use a pencil when you are check writing because someone whod prefer to fill in the blanks with the amount theyd like to receive could easily erase your pencil marks. To avoid dishing out blank checks to people, be sure to use some kind of ink. Although a pen is acceptable according to most people, it is wise to use a permanent marker if possible. This is significant due to those occurrences in which people have committed “check washing”, which is a process in which criminals use chemicals to remove checks’ ink. A permanent marker prevents this possibility.

Properly Dating and Identifying

When you first look at the check, it might seem complicated. All of those blanks are easy to fill out once you have all of the information, though. The first step is to fill out the current date on the check. Make sure to correctly identify the date, as post-dating a check is actually illegal. Once you’ve done that, you should write the name of the person who will be receiving the check on the “pay to the order of” line. Be sure to include their complete name.

Filling in the Amount

The most important piece of information on the check is the amount of money it’s worth. You will have to input this information in two places. First, you must input this in the dollar amount line, which can be found just under the “pay to the order of” line. Write out the full amount, including any cents that are involved in the transaction. Filling out this portion of the check will help prevent against someone changing around the numbers that you input. Speaking of those numbers, you will have to input them into the amount box, which can be found on the right side of the check.

Signing the Check

When you are all done with the other parts of the check, it’s time to sign the check. It is very important that you sign the check with your standard signature, similar to the one that can be found on your driver’s license. If you don’t take great care to do this, then the bank could throw up red flags on your check and you could have to answer annoying questions about potential fraud. With the amount of check fraud and forgery going on today, banks are on the lookout for signatures that look suspicious or don’t match your normal signature. The final part of the check is the “info” section, which is optional. Most people like to write what the check is for just for their own bookkeeping ease. Generally, the more information you provide, the better off you will be.

In general, it isn’t difficult to write a check. However, check writing isn’t something that should be taken lightly. Be certain to take a great deal of care in filling out each section of the check as carefully and completely as possible, so as to minimize the possibility that your check will be manipulated. This will prevent future headaches from occurring.

Steps on How to Fix a Leaky Faucet

by Kaye Fretz

If you want to steer away from having to call a plumber and face the absurdly high fees they charge you with, you must learn how to fix a leaky faucet. Aside from that, you really wouldn’t want to endure the annoying dripping sounds a leaky faucet makes, would you? By learning how to repair a leaky faucet, you will never have to call a plumber again. Go through these easy to understand and very simple steps and you’ll be a faucet expert in no time.

Learning how to fix a leaky faucet is actually very easy, as long as you are equipped with the right tools and materials. Basically, all you need is a new washer (preferably one that is suited to the faucet you have at home), some rags, a wrench, and a screwdriver (flathead and Philipps).

There are some things you should do before you start pulling your faucet apart. First, you should shut off the main water supply by shutting off the control valve. This can be found somewhere along the pipes under the sink. Turn the level or handle of the valve counter clockwise to switch it off.

Other than that, you also have to plug up the drain with the use of rags. By doing so, you are preventing small parts like washer and screws to go down the drain.

Once you have accomplished that, you can start with the process of fixing the leaky faucet. But be informed that these steps can be applied only to conventional faucets. Most unconventional faucets differ from one another depending on type and brand and you might need specific repair kits for it.

1. Just below the handle, where the faucet stem is attached to the water pipe, is a nut. Use a wrench to twist the nut counterclockwise to remove it. Turn the handle counterclockwise until you are able to remove it completely.

2. Once you have detached the handle, you will see a rubber-like washer that is held down by a screw. This washer is probably very old and falling down to pieces, which could be the reason why your faucet is leaking in the first place. Remove the old washer by unscrewing it, and then install the new washer. Remember that the new washer’s size should just be similar to that of the old washer. Tighten the screws on the new washer to secure it in place.

3. Put everything back into place. Reinstall the faucet handle (clockwise, this time), and tighten the stem nut back to its original position.

4. Do the checking. Turn the water back on and see if the faucet still leaks. If it still is, either you need to screw things more tightly or, you need to buy a new faucet rather than a new washer. And if all else fails, seek professional help and call a plumber.

So, there you have it. The easiest and simplest ways that will teach you how to fix a leaky faucet. By following these steps, you may never have to call another plumber again. You can say goodbye to ugly sink stains caused by long-standing drips, annoying dripping noises, and water wastage. All it takes is for you to learn these uncomplicated steps and you will never be helpless in dealing with a leaky faucet in your lifetime ever again.

by Febbe Wallace

Using a wheel chair has not been easy for many individuals. This is why wheel chair lift vans were developed and released in the market in the past decades. Indeed, wheel chairs have served a very important purpose in providing users the ability to travel from one place to another. But like many of us, you are most probably looking more into maximum comfort and convenience besides plain mobility. You’d not only want to go to places, but you’d also want to go to places faster and with less hassle.

Van features:

These wheel chair lift vans designed specifically for tasks that require the use of scooters or wheel chairs to travel. Their major function is to make access to the vehicle itself much easier by providing a built-in device that lifts up the wheel chair. The other major function of the wheel chair lift is to provide a secure and spacious seating allocation for the wheel chair user.

Most wheel chair lift for vans already come with a wheel chair ramp or a special automated device that can lift a wheel chair from the ground and into the vehicle. When used, suspensions often stiffen so that the weight of the wheel chair will be handled appropriately.

They also generally come with two doors. They may have a back door or a side door. With a back door, a lift or ramp is provided for you to be elevated into the van. A back door will allow you to go directly through the middle and into the front of the seats in the vehicle. In this case, the back area of your van is elongated to allow the ramp to be longer and less steep. Parking might become somewhat of a hindrance because of the elongated feature, but most places provide handicap parking spaces.

Some models are ingeniously designed with side doors, thus allowing the wheel chair user to enter the vehicle from the side and travel a shorter distance to the front seat. These vans will not have a problem with parallel parking, but you may need a lot more space on the sides before accessing your vehicle at the parking lot.

Wheel chair lift vans often have a lowered bearing to allow wheel chair users to access the vehicle with ease and without the risk of slipping backwards or falling sideways.

The cost of wheel chair lift vans will depend greatly on which type you go with and if you are going to have one customized. You have plenty of options when it comes to prices.
