Shopping Around For Life Insurance

by Chris Clare

No-one likes to dwell on the inevitable, so its easy to put off buying life insurance.But a little bit of careful planning could quite literally pay big dividends in the longterm. Going on-line is one way to ease the pressure of this decision. You may be pleasantly surprised when you find how easy it is to find what youre looking for and what great deals there are to be had.

That said online is not the only environment where you will find good life insurance providers. The telephone directory is always a good source for contacts you will always be able to find a broker there and face to face is still a more desired option for some. But if that is not your cup of tea why go online? Internet brokers generally offer some of the best deals you can find. A lot of online brokers offer great discounts to clients purchasing from their sites. Many of the bigger more established brokers also offer insurance quotes form a range of life companies, which when you need life insurance, this is by far the best way to look for it, this is essentially, shopping around, without the “around” bit.

You will also find some sites will guide you to what levels of cover you need. Arranging life insurance properly does involve factoring in a lot of other things such as you age, occupation, lifestyle, amount of children, size of liabilities and obviously the type of cover you need. A good site will make you aware of these options and should make the process somewhat easier.

You can choose from either investment or term insurance. Term insurance is a little cheaper, paying out money if you die within a certain time frame, but not paying it out if you live past a certain date. On the other hand, investment-type life insurance may only pay out when you die. So take into account what your individual needs may be added into how much you are willing to pay for your life insurance policy. What is the risk you are willing to undertake and what is the possible return on investment down the road?

Although it sounds initially daunting, you should not be put off insuring your life. An independent study by the Financial Services Authority showed that 70% of consumers will shop around for household electrical items but only 52% will spend the same amount of time on their life insurance. A television or computer or dishwasher may play an important role in our day to day lives, but do they justify more attention than insuring our lives? It is literally one of the most important decisions you will ever make, so be sure to give it the attention it deserves.

Once you have decided to get life insurance, shopping online has even more benefits than just comparing quotes. You will be advised by your online broker as to what coverage you need. Points to remember: Ask about terminal illness benefits, separate life insurance if you are a couple and illness coverage. The options are interminable. You can even obtain income protection or guaranteed insurance options to cover pregnancy and birth.

One of the main things that a lot of people don’t realise they can do is replace existing cover for a new plan. This can be appropriate if the new plan is cheaper and offers exactly the same, or better, benefits for the same, or longer, amount of time. So why not get online and see if there is something better for you, with most sites you can even get the application online so you don’t have to wait for the post.

So shopping online for life insurance can be a great time saver that will also provide you with a variety of quotes. It’s the best way to shop around for life insurance no matter what your individual needs may be. You no longer have to spend time going from site to site; one site is pretty much all you need anymore.

Looking At Shingles Pain As A Symptom

by Rashel Dan

People suffering from shingles do not just get rashes. These people also suffer extreme shingles pain. What is shingles pain and how can it affect you?

Pain Before the Rashes

Contrary to popular belief, shingles is not signaled by just the outbreak of rashes. The first real sign of shingles is shingles pain. The reason why shingles pain occurs first before the rashes is that damage to the nerves happens first.

Once an individual recuperates from a chicken pox, the virus causing it usually gets stored in a nerve near the spinal cord. When the virus is reactivated, it can cause the nerve to become inflamed which is the initial cause of shingles pain. As the virus travels to the skin and becomes obvious as rashes, the pain may begin to worsen. The degree and constancy of the pain however varies from one individual to another.

Post Herpetic Neuralgia (PHN)

In some cases, the shingles pain may even persist long after the shingles rashes disappear. This is a condition known as post herpetic neuralgia. It is believed that the initial swelling of the nerve may result in the nerve defensively releasing substance P which is the known signal for pain. People with severe shingles may have severely damaged nerves, thus resulting in chronic shingles pain known as post herpetic neuralgia.

Age and PHN

It is an accepted fact that older people have higher chances of suffering from shingles than younger people. This is because older individuals have weaker immune systems due to the natural ageing of their bodies’ systems. There is also a possibility that older people with shingles as well as those who have low stress tolerance have a greater chance of suffering from post herpetic neuralgia. The reasons for this are unclear but it is possible that PHN is also still linked with the body’s level of immunity and capacity for self healing.

Treatment of PHN

Just like shingles, there is no clear cure for shingles pain that has progressed to PHN. It is possible though to ease this chronic shingles pain and possibly even prevent it. Some suggest that early shingles treatment can reduce the possibility of developing PHN.

Treatments for the condition would include pain relievers and anti viral medications. For those who already have PHN, doctors may prescribe a number of medications which include antidepressants, lidocaine patches, anticonvulsants and opioids. Further studies are needed to determine how exactly antidepressants work to prevent or ease shingles pain.

Radiation Therapy

PHN may be possibly relieved by radiation. A study conducted for more than two decades showed that people who were given small doses of radiation on the affected nerves experienced relief from PHN. Some participants even experienced more relief from radiation doses than from the usual shingles medications. It is believed that radiation can prevent both inflammation and the increase of the virus. The use of radiation however almost always carries some risks.

3 Phenomenal Ways To Make Your Property Value Soar

by Ashley Lichty

Buying a home is an investment, and maintaining and raising property value over the years is crucial to keeping that investment healthy. Your house isn’t just a home to rest your head and shelter your family, it’s also a guarantee of money. Should tragedy one day strike and cause the need for large amounts of money, your home is the one piece of property you can always count on to be bankable.

If an emergency situation like that arises, you’ll be much better off if your property value has increased quickly from the price of purchase. Taking steps now to increase your property’s value can go a long way to securing your future. Even if the need never arises to use your home for money, you’ll be happy you’ve kept your value up should you ever decide to sell.

Increasing your curb appeal is one of the most effective ways at increasing your property value. The actual market value of a home is often affected by it’s perceived value. Not to mention, it normally leads to a more speedy sale!

It’s important to carefully plan any designs for your property so you don’t spoil the whole purpose of landscaping! It’s best to just hire a professional if you want it done right - or at least do some HEAVY research before you make your decisions. Did you know that a good landscape design not only adds to your property value, but can even save you up to 25% on heating and cooling costs!?

Other outdoor improvements that can increase your property value include painting or re-siding the home and making sure all gutters and clean and in working condition. Fencing in a yard can often create a larger demand for a property and good outdoor lighting adds a feel of security. Make sure the parking areas are clear and clean, no muddy puddles, and that potholes are filled in.

Improvements to the inside of your home can also help raise your property value. For one, homes with central air conditioning are almost always preferred. Kitchens are another biggie - most buyers want spacious kitchens. Even if your kitchen is a bit small, you can give the illusion of space by using shelves and hanging racks and keeping it clear of clutter.

Most important of all when it comes to maintaining your property value is MAINTENANCE. Don’t let things fall into disrepair, keep all major areas in working order, replace window screens, water fixtures, light fixtures, etc. on an as needed basis. Remember that cosmetic repairs (new paint, carpets, etc.) have a neutral affect on property value since it’s all a matter of opinion.

Your property value should be like your credit score - you find out what it is regularly and take steps to constantly improve it. Make sure you research improvements before actually starting them to make sure they’re worth it. You can increase your property value slowly but surely by keeping up with these tips over the years.

What Is A Home Improvement Grant?

by Phil Nichol

Home improvement loans are different from home improvement grants. The difference is a loan has to be paid back in full to the lender whereas the grant is a type of gift. However, home improvement grants don’t usually cover the full cost of the renovations so some amount has to be from the owners own pocket.

Do I qualify for a home improvement grant? The answer depends upon the state you live in and for what purpose you require the grant but the requirements are often very similar. You’re more likely to be eligible if you fall within these groups:

Remodeling grants aren’t available for everyone and can only be used for home improvements. Normally they can be given to:

2. United States Citizens (although each agency is different)

3. Applicants on a very low income

4. Applicants who have bad credit

A professional inspector is sent out to the house in any of these scenarios to determine if repairs or renovation is needed.

Once you have been approved for the grant, you can use it to repair piping, fix leaks on the roof, in or leaks in the walls, for example. If your home has electrical problems then the home improvement grant can be used to make those repairs as well.

Each state has different agencies that you can contact. Check out your state government website. You should find a section for home improvements or grants there. You can also contact your local Department of Human Services. They can offer you a list of agencies that will help you apply for home improvement grants.

Because governmental organisations and institutions give out grants that are attached to the area in which they work, you will need to do find grants that that are appropriate to the nature of your repair. If, for example, the desired repair is to your waste management system, you can obtain a grant from the environment office.

If you are unsuccessful, however, and your grant application is denied you could apply for a subsidised loan. There are many available with interest rates as low as 1% to a maximum of 5%. They also tend to accept repayments over a longer period of time. As always, with any borrowing decision, do your homework first.

Garden Compost Explanation And Tips

by Garnett Foards

Want the best gardening advice? Go straight to the source. Mother Nature, after all, is the world’s best gardener, and some of the world’s most beautiful gardens are found in the most remote places. To create a garden that’s naturally lush and vibrant, without using harsh chemicals, use garden compost. It’s nature’s perfect fertilizer.

Composting is the oldest method of fertilizing plants, from leafy shrubs and trees to exotic flowers. Take the rainforest, for example. The entire floor of the rainforest is a carpet of naturally occurring compost that’s constantly providing shelter, support and food for all types of plant life.

It’s easy to create your own perfect fertilizer just by saving food scraps and yard waste. You’ll also save a load of money on garden center supplies, and you’ll reduce waste. Creating your own garden compost is a win-win-win situation! When complete, your garden compost will be a dark, crumbly mixture of decomposed organic matter.

Creating garden compost is so easy to do, and just wait till you see how many ways it can benefit your blooms:

* Provide essential nutrients to plants

* Reduces the need for harmful fertilizers

* Improve the quality of heavy clay or sandy soil

* Reduces watering

* Help control pesky weeds

Creating Garden Compost

The recipe for garden compost is quite basic. The natural gardener’s rule of thumb is to use one part green to two parts brown.

A compost pile is a bustling community of microorganisms that live by breaking down organic matter, like yard debris and organic scraps, and turn them into compost. You’ll need to do your part to encourage the growth of these microorganisms.

Natural flower fertilizers, like dried leaves, can be used as the two parts carbon-rich “brown” materials. Mix it with one-part nitrogen-rich “green” materials such as fresh grass clippings. The result will be an all-natural fertilizer that acts as ideal fuel for those hungry populations of microorganisms. Soon they’ll get active, heat up your yard debris and produce valuable garden compost.

Garden Compost Ingredients

Your “two parts brown” can contain any combination of the following materials:

* Dry grass clippings and leaves

* Small sticks and twigs

* Shredded newsprint

* Hay or straw

* Wood chips, shavings and sawdust

* Old potting soil

The “one part green” may include one or more of these healthy materials:

* Fresh, green grass clippings

* Newly fallen leaves

* Plant stems and stalks

* Hedge trimmings

* Annual weeds (without the heads!)

* Fruit and vegetable scraps

* Coffee grounds, filters and tea bags

* Clean egg shells

Some materials should NEVER be used in garden compost:

* Diseased plants

* Weed seed heads

* Invasive weeds (morning glory, quack grass)

* Bread, cereal grains

* Meat, fish or bones

* All dairy products

* Grease, cooking oil, oily foods

* Pet feces

* Dead animals

Size Matters

The smaller your composting components are, the faster you will achieve rich, usable compost. Obviously, large pieces of vegetables will take longer to break down than smaller pieces. Chop your leftover fruits and vegetables into small pieces. Garden debris should be cut up using garden shears or a machete. Use a garden chipper/shredder or a lawnmower mulching attachment to break up sticks and twigs.

For even faster garden compost action, your compost pile should be no less than three feet in diameter. Size is important, because the actual composting occurs from the heat generated by those millions of microorganisms living in your soil. As they process the raw materials, they release energy that helps to activate the decomposition. A compost pile of at least three square feet is the best size for hotter, faster composting.

Air and Water

Like all living things, compost needs water and air to survive. The microorganisms in your garden compost can’t do their jobs without ample supplies of water and air. Sprinkle water over your compost on a regular basis, but don’t drown it. The compost should be about as wet as a damp sponge.

To incorporate air into the garden compost, use a pitchfork to turn the compost materials one every week. This will also help to distribute the efforts of the microorganisms. Otherwise, you’ll end up with a nice layer of compost at the bottom of the pile, and a heap of garden waste on top.

If you’re looking for gardening advice, take it right from the source: Mother Nature herself. It’s easy to make your own garden compost, and your bright, beautiful plants will be more than enough payment for your efforts.
